  • 1972 – Police in Canberra disassemble the Aboriginal Tent Embassy (pictured) and arrest eight protesters; it is reestablished in October.
  • 1978 – Middle-distance runner Tamsyn Manou is born.
  • 1979 – Inaugural meeting of the National Farmers’ Federation
