Ming Pao and Singtao Daily report: according to Asahi Shimbun, leaders of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have decided at their Beidaihe meeting to expel Bo Xilai, former secretary of CCP Chongqing Municipal Committee, from the party.
They both report: Asahi Shimbun says, a CCP source, having attended the Beidaihe meeting, reveals that at the meeting, CCP top leaders decided through discussion to expel Bo Xilai from the CCP. They also decided to affix his responsibility for the incident of former Chongqing Deputy Mayor Wang Lijun entering the American Consulate in Chengdu.
Ming Pao says, according to Asahi Shimbun, in order to exclude Zhou Yongkang, the leader in charge of political and legislative work who is close to Bo Xilai, the number of the members of the CCP Politburo Standing Committee will be reduced to 7. That along with the decision to expel Bo indicates that in the power struggle for the new leadership, Hu Jintao’s faction has gained ground on Jiang Zemin’s faction.
Singtao Daily also says that, according to Asahi Shimbun, Bo may face criminal prosecution, and that it is expected that the CCP will announce its decision to expel Bo at the 7th plenary Session of the 17th CCP Central Committee on the eve of its 18th Congress.
