The following is based on a translation of a report on a Chinese news site:
War.163.com says in its report that the land-based version of the YJ-18 is now using a new generation of Changjian-XX ground-to-surface and ground-to-ground cruise missile and an anti-ship missile, which is able to sink an Aegis destroyer.
The report gives the following information which has now been declassified by the Chinese government:
China has previously imported the Russian 3M-54 Klub missiles with combined subsonic and supersonic technology that enable them to penetrate the missile defences of a warship.
The missile cruises at a subsonic speed of Mach 0.8 and at an altitude of 4.6 metres until it is 40 to 55 km away from its target.
Then it separates from its rear part and accelerates to Mach 2.9 within the 40-km range of the missile defence of its target warship, leaving its target warship not enough time to respond.
It has the anti-radiation capability to destroy 60% of the electronic system of its target warship even if it explodes 50 metres away from its target warship.
The report says that it is able to make a sharp turn with 10 g acceleration to avoid the enemy warship’s air defence fire.
There has also been an increase in the weight of its warhead to 500 kg to enable it to have much better armour piercing due to its much greater kinetic energy from its high speed of Mach 3 and greater mass.
The powerful explosion of its 500 kg high explosive will sink its target warship instantly when it hits its target.
