On April 27, 2021, I had a post titled “PLA 3 Main Battle Warships Commissioned April 24”, which is a summary translation of Oriental Press’ report on the event. According to Oriental Press, the three warships are a Type 055 large missile destroyer, a Type 075 amphibious attack worship and a Type 094 SSBN.
However, according to SCMP’s report “China’s new nuclear submarine missiles expand range in US: analysts” today (May 2, 2021), the SSBN is a Type 094A, an upgraded version of Type 094. It has greatly reduced its noise by improving hydrokinetic and turbulent systems.
According to the SCMP report, the SSBN is armed with China’s most powerful submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) JL-3 with multiple nuclear warheads and a range more than 10,000 km, capable of hitting anywhere in the US mainland.
