- 1855 – David Angus, founder of Angus & Robertson, born in Thurso, Scotland.
- 1866 – Frederick Augustus Bolles Peters, the founder of Peters Icecream, “The Health Food of a Nation” born in Scio, Michigan.
- 1957 – Larry Anthony, federal minister in the Menzies Government, dies in Murwillumbah, New South Wales. His son, Doug Anthony (pictured), is elected in a subsequent by-election as Member for the Division of Richmond.
