- 1916 – Thomas Cooke died in the Battle of Pozières and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his gallantry in the face of the enemy.
- 1956 – The film A Town Like Alice (pictured) premieres in Alice Springs.
- 1994 – Telephone numbers throughout Australia begin changing to eight digits.
